The man virtually synonymous with finding extrasolar planets, meaning planets in solar systems beyond our own, has resigned. While I know nothing about the sexual harassment charges and investigation, I will say that I met Geoffrey Marcy at a AIAA Space conference a few years ago, and found him to be very gracious, approachable, and encouraging. I sincerely hope he finds another venue to continue his work, as what he does is absolutely vital to the field of extrasolar planet research. If the charges against him prove true, it goes without saying he should work in an environment devoid of women, so his research can continue without distraction or temptation.
